Renowned Irish singer and activist born in 1966, Sinead O’Connor, has passed away at the age of 56, following a long battle with mental health issues.

The iconic artist, known for her soul-stirring rendition of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U in 1990 and other hit songs, has passed away: remembering Sinead O’Connor. Some of her other notable hits include The Emperor’s New Clothes, Mandinka and Troy.

In a heartfelt statement provided to Irish TV and radio broadcaster RTÉ, her family expressed deep sorrow over the loss, requesting privacy during this challenging time.

Born on December 8, 1966, in Dublin, O’Connor’s life and career were marked by moments of fame and strife. In March, she received the prestigious Classic Irish Album award for “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got” at the RTÉ Choice Music Awards. Additionally, her autobiography, “Remembering’s,” published by Dey Street Books in 2021, provided a glimpse into her life’s journey.

The tragic news comes just a year after the loss of her 17-year-old son, Shane, who took his own life in January 2022 while under suicide watch after escaping from the hospital. Sinead O’Connor had been grappling with grief and sorrow ever since.

In 2018, the singer underwent a profound spiritual transformation, converting to Islam and adopting the name Shuhada’ Sadaqat. At the time of her passing, she was believed to be dividing her time between Co Roscommon, Ireland, and London.

The world mourns the loss of a talented artist and passionate advocate, and her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her family, friends, and countless fans worldwide.

“Rest in peace, Sinead O’Connor. Your music will forever be a source of solace and connection, touching the souls of many and reminding us of your enduring impact on the world of music and beyond.” – Team Desi Rush
